though引導讓步狀語從句時表示一種假設的情況或含有推測的意味,從句的謂語動詞可用陳述式,也可用虛擬式; 有時爲了強調讓步的意義,可採用倒裝語序。
在用though連接的從句中,謂語是be,而從句的主語與主句的主語相同時,從句的主語與be可同時省略。
區別although和though:though可以做副詞，指“但是”，但是although不行。as though屬固定搭配，這裡though不能替換成although。although要比though來得更正式，相對而言，語氣比較重，但是though的使用更普遍。although引導的從句，常指實際發生的事情，而不是假象，設想。though和although都可在從句中用作連詞，通常表示相同的意思，但though更普遍適應於非正式的表述中；He said he would come, he didn't, though. 句中的though不能替換成although。He would not be unhappy though he should have to live alone. 就算要一個人住，他可能也不會不開心。He was not unhappy although he had to live alone. 雖然他不得不要一個人住，卻沒有不開心。
though已表示“然而，可是”，在句中，不可再與but連用。Though he lives alone, but he is happy. 句子中的but要刪掉。
though引導的句子有時有特殊的格式。值得注意的是，句子 Though loving him, I cannot help him是不成立的，因爲沒有though I was loving這一說法。Though he lives alone, he is happy. 句子中的“he lives”可以省略掉。
